Saadat Hasani Gilani
Descendants of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) - 46 Generations of Sacred Lineage
"Say: I do not ask you for any reward except love for my near relatives."
— Quran 42:23
SECTION 1 — WHO ARE THE SADAT?
The Honour of Being Syed
The title Syed (also written Sayyid) refers to those who are direct descendants of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through his beloved daughter Hazrat Fatima-tuz-Zahra (S.A.) and her husband Hazrat Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S.).
To be born into this lineage is considered one of the greatest honours in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ himself said:
"I am leaving among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt. If you hold fast to both of them, you will never go astray."
— Hadith al-Thaqalayn (Sahih Muslim, Tirmidhi)
The love and respect for the family of the Prophet ﷺ — the Ahl al-Bayt — is not merely a cultural tradition. It is a Quranic obligation and a cornerstone of Islamic faith across all schools of thought, be it Sunni, Shia, or Sufi.
SECTION 2 — OUR LINEAGE
The Hassani Gilani Line
Our family belongs to the Saadat Hasani — descendants through Imam Hassan (A.S.), the elder grandson of the Prophet ﷺ and the 2nd Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt.
This lineage passes through one of the most celebrated figures in Islamic history:
Syed Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jillaniؒ
Ghous-e-Azam · Qutb ul-Awliya · Gen 14 of our lineage
Known across the world as Ghous-e-Azam (The Greatest Helper), Syed Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jillaniؒ was born in Gilan, Persia in 1078 CE and passed away in Baghdad in 1166 CE. He was a scholar, jurist, theologian, and the founder of the Qadiri Sufi order — the most widespread Sufi tariqa in the world today.
His descendants spread across the Muslim world — to Iraq, Persia, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and beyond. Our family represents one of the authenticated branches of his lineage, traced and preserved with care across 46 generations from the Prophet ﷺ to the present day.
SECTION 3 — THE CERTIFICATION OF UCH SHARIF
Authenticated and Certified at Uch Sharif
The authenticity of our Shajra-e-Nasab (family tree) has been formally verified and certified through Uch Sharif — one of the most sacred and historically significant centres of Syed lineage authentication in the entire Muslim world.
What is Uch Sharif?
Located in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan, Uch Sharif is an ancient city with a history spanning over 2,000 years. It became one of the most important centres of Islamic scholarship, Sufi spirituality, and Syed genealogical record-keeping in South Asia.
Uch Sharif is home to the shrines of several great saints including:
- Hazrat Jahaniyan Jahangasht (Syed Jalal ud Din Bukhari)ؒ
- Hazrat Bibi Jawindi
- Hazrat Baha ud Din Zakariyaؒ
For centuries, Uch Sharif has served as the official custodian of Syed genealogical records for families of the Indian Subcontinent. Families from across Pakistan, India, and the diaspora travel to Uch Sharif to have their lineage verified, recorded, and stamped with an official certification that traces back to the Prophet ﷺ.
Our Certification
The Shajra-e-Nasab of the Saadat Hasani Gilani presented on this website has been:
✅ Verified through the authorised custodians of genealogical records at Uch Sharif
✅ Cross-referenced against historical records of the Qadiri Gilani lineage
✅ Authenticated as a genuine and unbroken chain of descent from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through Imam Hassan (A.S.), through Ghous-e-Azam Syed Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jillaniؒ, across 46 recorded generations
This certification gives our Shajra-e-Nasab its official standing — not merely as a family record, but as a historically and spiritually authenticated document of prophetic descent.
SECTION 4 — THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS LINEAGE
Why This Matters
The preservation of Syed lineage is considered a religious and moral duty in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Learn your genealogies so that you may maintain your ties of kinship."
— Tirmidhi
Across 1,400 years of Islamic history, Syed families have been:
- Entrusted with religious leadership — as Imams, scholars, and jurists
- Carriers of Sufi knowledge — as sheikhs and spiritual guides
- Ambassadors of peace — respected across tribal, ethnic, and national boundaries
- Living connections to the Prophet ﷺ — whose love is woven into the heart of every believing Muslim
To be a Syed carries immense responsibility. It is not a title of privilege alone, but a calling to embody the character, humility, knowledge, and love of the Prophet ﷺ and his noble family.
